my body, my pad, my ride...

september in toronto means that streets are shut down, paparazzi are always around, red carpets are rolled out and celebrities are in town. it can only mean one thing; tiff (toronto international film festival). i haven't had much luck this year, though i haven't been on the lookout. yesterday, while walking by a theatre, i saw crowds starting to form. i asked a girl what they were waiting for and she said "don jon." but then she said joseph gordon-levitt and scarlett johansson and i was all, "aha! that one!" it was far too hot and i was carrying an awful lot and there was still some time before the red carpet so i left. on my way home, i started thinking that i kind of would like to see jgl, so when i got home, i changed, charged my phone quickly (how could i go to a red carpet with only 6% battery), grabbed the dog and headed right back out.

the crowds had grown significantly, which is never good for a shorty like me. first same scarjo. i saw her, but of course, could only get pictures of her hair.  then came the main man; mr. joseph. i couldn't see him at all with the cameras and pictures to be signed flying in the air. womp womp. i left slightly defeated.
 calm before the storm.
that's her blonde hair there in the centre. move your phone!

her back! as good as i got.
tiff bonus: free stuff all over the city. more than usual.

other years i've been more successful; matt damon, michael douglas, michael c. hall and sarah silverman, and james franco. maybe i'll run into more during the rest of the week, who knows.

in the meantime, any celebs who would like to come on over to my place for a cup of coffee, my door is open to you ;)

tiff times...

when my mom drove me back to toronto on friday afternoon, she stayed for the weekend in hopes of seeing some celebs who are here for TIFF. mostly goerge clooney.

didn't see george :(
delicious daiquiris in between celeb stalking.
cbs news people? not important enough for me to care ;)
there were 2 labs in the back; it was pretty cute.
crowds waiting across from the hazelton hotel in yorkville, where a lot of celebs stay. and a lot go to that starbucks, too ;)
free stuff throughout the day..4 vodka coolers, 5 cups of chocolate covered coffee beans, chips and cream. pretty good, i'd say. between these bottles, and the wine and sangria and vodka that's in there, my fridge currently looks like a liquor store.
holla.
another day, walking by and seeing this crowd. it was some of the degrassi cast. it's a canadian show that's been on  for years and years (the 15 year old that it used to be about, are now the parents and teachers).
i can't really consider these kids celebs. i've seen most of the cast around the city at some point or another by now (concerts, clubs, walking by...)
no celeb sightings yet (boo), but there's still 5 days left. i'm keeping my eyes ope. there's hope. 2 years ago, i wrote about seeing michael douglas and matt damon. then last year, here's posts about seeing james franco, michael c hall and sarah silverman. i would have loved to have seen ryna gosling and adam brody this year, but are  ya going to do, eh?

thoughts on 127 hours...

if you follow me on twitter (@simply_girly), then you know that this weekend i watched 127 Hours. not once, but twice. i watched it by myself first, then on friday i watched it with my 2 girlfriends. just like Black Swan, i had been waiting since september to see this movie. ever since i saw the trailer at TIFF, i knew i had to see it. i actually remember hearing about the story when it first happened. if you don't know, it's about a man, Aron Ralston, whose arm becomes trapped between a canyon and a boulder and he has to cut if off if he wants to survive. he's out there alone for 5 days, hence 127 hours.
i went to the red carpet premier with my friend in september and i really wish we had gotten tickets to see it at the premier as well. James Franco as well as Aron Ralston both gave speeches and i would have loved to hear what they said about it.
 the very handsome franco
and Aron Ralston himself

we got to see everyone from the movie, which was pretty cool. but getting back to the movie itself. it was incredible. to see everything that this man went through, it was unbelievable. i cannot even imagine. when it comes to the part of him cutting his arm off, it is very greusome. and i can handle watching a lot of gross stuff (i read that people have fainted in the theatre, and i don't doubt it). but mr franco pulled it off and you can feel the pain, the strength, the desire to get out, and every emotion that he's feeling. and you can just imagine the sense of freedom and happiness that must overcome him as he is no longer trapped. in the end i was crying, and thinking what an amazing, inspiring man he is. he's also written a book on his experience and you can bet that it's already on my list of books to buy.
i highly recommend seeing this movie. and even if you don't like blood, it's only about 3 or 4 minutes at an hour:15 in.
Aron Ralston, i think you are my new hero.

remember that time i saw dexter? ya, that happened...

wednesday night, Michael C. Hall (aka DEXTER!!) had a movie premiering (Peep World) at Tiff. me and my friend diana are HUGE Dexter fans, so we obviously had to go to the red carpet to see if we could see him. the movie started at 6:30 (we should have tried to get tickets darnit) so we got the carpet around 4:30, figuring people would start coming around 6. they actually starting coming around 5:30, which, hey, the earlier the better. the crowds were actually crazy; people had little step stools they were standing on (even the ones in the front right against the gate, stupid people!) so even though we were about second row, it was still a little hard to see. but it was awesome. lets get started...(all the photos can be enlarged*)
does anyone know who this is? haha people were snapping pictures and all, so i figured i should too in case it's someone that i didn't recognize
Sarah Silverman (why does she always wear those pigtails?)
all smiles
Tariji P. Henson; from Benjamin Button movie
the one on the left, i was trying to get the picture, but the girl in front getting the picture on her camera haha thought that was cool. and on the right, man that life must just be surreal.
Michael C. Hall..absolutely adorable!!
i have no idea how my camera turned black and white?? it was much harder to pictures of Michael C. Hall because everyone was crazy for him.
and a good quality one; via
Judy Greer; neither of us could tell who it was, but i took the picture anyway. when i looked her up, i realized she has been in tonnes! (What Women Want (love this movie), 27 Dresses, The Village, Wedding Planner, 13 Going on 30 to name a few)
we heart tiff
free coke bottles being handed out all over! we got like 3 each on sunday and 1 each today haha
Roy Thomson Hall; where a lot of action takes place

honestly, we're both such big Dexter fans and think he is hot and one sexy man, so this was quite exciting! Ryan Gosling was at another premier at the same time (oh how i would have loved to see him; Breaker High anyone? maybe just the Canadians?); Ryan Phillippe was there later and Ryan Reynolds was there the night before i believe. why wasn't i there!??! Ryan Reynolds people!! anyway, it's on until the 22nd, so we'll see if i see anyone else!
*there as a lot of exclamation points in this post. can you tell i'm excited about seeing people?*

have a great weekend (because i know i had a great week :))

it's almost a shame to smoke it. It's like killing a unicorn... with, like, a bomb...

it's TIFF time here in toronto!! from september 11-22, a tonne of stars are in the city for the Toronto International Film Festival! i'll definitely be walking around in hopes of catching some star citings ;)

sunday was a big street festival to celebrate the start of tiff. K'naan and Fefe Dobson performed and they were both pretty good live. there was food, free cupcakes (which must have run out by the time we got there..*sad face*) and free glass bottles of coke being given out (glass bottles are so much cuter!)
**lots of pictures ahead**
first up, Fefe Dobson was playing when we got there (you might know her song 'ghost')
the hosts; the only reason i post this picture is because this lady is from a commercial they show at Christmastime that i find hilarious; here
gosh i need a spray tan or something, and my hand looks really bony...but yay for free coke! (even though i don't drink pop haha)
probably only Canadians will know this guy; George Stroumboulopoulos (longest last name ever!) introducing K'naan
getting everyone into it.

that night at 6:00 was the premier of the movie 127 Hours with James Franco and directed by Danny Boyle (who also did Slumdog Millionaire). me and my 2 friends had wanted to get tickets, but we didn't up doing it. but then last minute, my one friend said she was still going to come up and we thought we would check out the red carpet and see what it's all about.
we had no idea what time people would start walking down the carpet, but we got there around 4:30 and they ended up coming around 5:30, so it really wasn't that bad.
all the media people waiting for the important people to arrive
Danny Boyle
David Cross
Clémence Poésy; i heard she's going to be on gossip girl and she has been in harry potter? (i'm not sure, i've never watched either)-i loved what she was wearing.
Kate Mara and Amber Tamblyn (in the white dress) who wouldn't turn around!
Aron Ralston; who the movie was about (a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in a canyon)
there he is! James Franco; the man of the hour
so cute and smiley
seriously *this* close, of course my camera wouldn't click when he was looking my way, and then when he turned it took! grrr!!

such a cool experience overall. last night was the premier of Black Swan which i have been dying to see and had no idea it was playing at tiff until sunday night. it stars Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman. i can't wait for this one to come out in theatres. i really wish i could have made it to see them on the red carpet. and of course, i still want to see 127 Hours as well.

when i looked at the list of stars that are scheduled to appear at the festival, i couldn't believe all the names. Ryan Reynolds is here, at some point. but i don't know when!! oh man would i love to see him in person!!

star sightings...

so right now, TIFF is going on in toronto-right in my neighbourhood (toronto international film fest)! its pretty exciting..on friday night, dylan and i went for a walk around yorkville-every car over like $300,000 is out in full effect and lined up one after the other on the streets. sassafraz is a pretty hot place where celebs go during the festival, so i thought we could walk by there; and what do you know, crowds and busy sidewalks..word got out matt damon and michael douglas were inside..michael douglas came to the window and waved to everyone and although i got a picture, it was really crappy quality (my usual camera broke and is being fixed grrr). then matt damon walked outside and i got a perfect look at him (what a cutie!) and when dylan tried to take a picture-there was a little camera problem and there was no pic!! ahh anyways, saturday when we were taking chloe out for a walk, we passed the four seasons restaurant and kim cattrall was eating inside..
so although the festival only started 3 days ago-ive seen a few good faces..and hopefully ill see more ;)
