little surprises...

it's always nice to wake up and find little surprises around the house that make you smile. when i woke up the other morning, i reached over to my side table to turn my alarm off and felt something sitting on my phone. once i kind of woke up from my sleepy haze, i realized it was a single flower. when i walked in the bathroom, i saw a bunch sitting in our sink with a little note. then i made my way into the kitchen and saw even more flowers sitting in a vase.

he's a good one.

surprises...

there's nothing better than a sweet surprise, something that puts a smile on your face and make you feel happy for the rest of the day. exactly that happened the other day. dylan has been starting work early lately, usually leaving about 3pm, so he's not there when i get home from classes. i had the tv on in the living room but was sitting on our bed (we can see the tv from there), working on a powerpoint presentation while also listening to music. it was just after 7pm, dylan texted, asking what i was doing and i told him. a few minutes later i thought i heard a knock on our door. i got up to check, looked out the peephole, and since it was just a random person, i wasn't going to answer it. but then i saw the pizza and figured, "better tell this guy he has the wrong unit."

i opened the door and he starts taking the pizza bag out of the bag, and then it went something like this:

me: oh, you have the wrong unit!
pizza guy: nope, unit ****?
me: yeah, but that's wrong. i didn't order pizza.
pizza guy: that's what it says.
me: yeah, but i really didn't order anything...
pizza guy: umm here, read the receipt. *hands me the receipt*
me: *scans receipt to look for phone number or name or something. then i see "write 'i love you' on the box' and then dylan's name.* ohhhh, my boyfriend ordered this for me!
pizza guy: here ya go. just sign the receipt. and he told you to tip me $50. *haha nice try*
me: closes door, walks back into our place all giddy and bring the pizza to bed (gasp!)

and then i opened the box and there was another surprise - a heart-shaped pizza! thin crust, extra cheese, black olives. just the way i like it.

he's a good one, that dylan.

little things...

here's a few things that are making me smile this week:

-waking up to a doughnut and a sweet note from dylan to start my day.

-canada kicking butt in the olympics. i can't say i watch too much, but it's nice to keep hearing that canada is doing well.

-cuddles from the dog who has no idea what personal space is.

-finding not 1, but 2 (!!) pairs of jeans that fit like gloves and were both on sale!

and to top it off, tomorrow is valentine's day. happy thursday!

surprises...

i would say it's fairly well documented around here that i consider myself quite frugal while dylan is the big spender. i very rarely carry cash and if i do happen to have cash, say a bill $20 or above, it's like pulling teeth trying to get me to break it. dylan is always giving me his change, which i happily accept (change, i do like) to keep myself fueled with caffeine, and we joke that it's my allowance for the week (and just to clarify, it's not!).

this week of finals is kicking my butt --a few 8:30am exams with a 1.5 hour commute!-- and i woke up to a lovely little surprise yesterday morning.
love the artists notation on the bottom corner ;)
move the change to find another little surprise.

clearly he wasn't tired when he got home from work at 2am and i reaped the benefits haha. i took that $5 to starbucks this morning, as i had to be out of the house by 6:30, and got myself my favorite eggnog latte.

thanks dyl :) ♥

the little things (vol.2)

little notes keep finding me around our place..and i quite like it.
i drink a coffee every morning, and 96% of the time, use the same cup, so it was a no brainer to put one in there. put a smile on my face that morning :)
and obviously i use my computer daily, too.

i also love that all these notes i'm finding are written on cue cards. such a man thing ;)

things i like...

 1) it's now cold enough to break out the flannel pj's again! it was 6degrees (celsius) on sunday. 2) tucking my pj's into socks at night. cannot handle them rolling up to my knees when i'm sleeping!
after getting home on sunday from a quick errand, i kept my scarf on, keeping me toasty. it was 6 degrees, remember?
of course, i love my little girl.
a surprise treat dylan brought me when he came to visit. i looove belgian cookies.
gchating and video chatting with dyl while he's at work. shhhh.

yep, these things are all pretty good.

a little 'hey, you're done school' surprise...

when i got home from my last exam on thursday, dylan was already at my place. we ate a bit of lunch, then i decided i needed a nap. i heard him leave shortly after, and i woke up 2 hours and he was still gone. he then came back and said he had a little surprise.
he tells me that he stopped in tiffany's to look for a grad present but said that there was too many 'options that you might not like.' i laughed and assured him he had good taste in jewelry (but really, he knows i don't want a grad gift), and then he said he wanted to get me something he knew for sure i would love. i think many of you can take a guess...
yep, red velvet cupcakes from my favorite place in the city-dessert lady! the absolute best!! we certainly enjoyed them. that's a given.

see, sometimes it's the little things. in this case, red velvet wins over tiffany's. sorry tiff, maybe next time ;)
thanks my darling :) ♥

it's the little things...

you know what i craved all weekend? well, i crave it all the time, but especially this weekend. red velvet cake. and as i've stressed a million times before, only with cream cheese icing. no buttercream crap. hate that stuff. i was taking a break from my work and i tried a new coffee place while i was out. and right beside the counter i see a little glass stand with some baked goods in it. and there was mini red velvet cupcakes in all their glory. i quickly asked the guy ringing me up what type of icing it was. sure enough, it was cream cheese. we shared a moment of our love for red velvet  as i added it to my order.

i waited until i got home to eat the mini concoction of love and that walk seemed to take forever. and let me just tell you, it was ah-mazing. as a self-proclaimed red velvet snob, i know good from bad. and there is a lot of bad out there. this has now been added to the short list of places that make a good quality red velvet in the city. (The Dessert Lady, Wanda's Pie in the Sky, and now Aroma Espresso Bar.)
oh, and to top it off, i've always wanted a latte with a little design in it, and this place does that too! it's a little messed up in the picture because i walked a bit with it before i stopped to take a picture. but that right there, that's a heart :)

see...it's the little things; like a heart in a latte and an unexpected [delicious] red velvet cupcake.
