valentine's day...

this valentine's day was a good one; we spent the weekend together just enjoying some quality time. we're not big in to this holiday, all i really ask for is a card every year. this year, dylan went a little beyond that.

while walking home from work on friday, i was listening to music on the spotify app. all of a sudden, my music just changed to one of my favourite songs; hall and oates - you make my dreams come true. i knew right away that dylan had changed it from at home on his computer and it put a huge smile on my face. as soon as i walked in the door, i saw a huge display sitting on our cabinets.

we also went and saw fifty shades of grey on friday night. i had never read the books and didn't really know much about the story line, except what's been talked about in the media the last few weeks. i have to say, i didn't find it half bad and the ending left me saying, "that's where it ends?!"

 a warm summer day at tobermory.

we went out to dinner last night to skip the overcrowded, overpriced restaurants that require reservations 3 months in advance. nothing says romance like chicken and waffles (for me) and philly cheesesteak (for him). we might catch a movie tonight, we'll see how things go. and as much as i would like to go get some discounted chocolate on the 15th, we still have plenty left from christmas and certainly don't need more.

valentine's day...

how was everyone's valentine's day?? hope it was full of sweets and loved ones, even if you're not in a relationship. any excuse to eat candy is fine by me. i woke up to some chocolate and flowers on the table, while dylan slept the morning away from being on nights. we started our afternoon trying out a new coffee place and then wandering around the mall. we went with mexican for dinner and it was a huge hit. gauc, nachos, enchiladas, sangria, margs..mm mm! 

*someone* needs a haircut. 

ugh that food was so good. i wish there was leftovers, but we ate it all.

we ended our day watching the oh-so-romantic hannibal and then ending the night fairly early since dylan got called into a random day shift starting at 6am this morning. 

ps. do you think the candy is all on sale yet?? i'm hoping so. i've got a few bucks left on a gift card at a place i'll be passing today. *fingers crossed*

taken hostage...

our valentine's day was celebrated a day later. he picked me up after work, and we then went for coffee and a little bit of dessert; i got the carrot cake (delish) and he got the choclate chip banana cake with chocolate icing (also delish). as for cards, i had told dylan that i wanted him to make mine. but me? i just bought his haha

a single rose. which i prefer to a whole dozen any day.

'your boyfriend dylan has been taken hostage. have 300 kisses and all your love ready on february 14 @8pm if you want him to live. if my demands are not met, i will break his heart a little bit every hour until he dies, no police.' the heart on the right is actually painted on with his fingers lol he's definitely a creative one, that's for sure.

so, that was our valentine's day (on the 15th) in a nutshell. the next morning we got up bright and early at 7:15 and dylan left to catch the bus back home by 8:30. and then i worked a 9 hour day. fun! however, i do have the weekend off again, and it's 'family day' on monday (an ontario holiday where most people get the day off to be with their family), and i happen to have it off, and my girl friends have planned to come up for a visit. fingers crossed plans don't change and they can make it!

even if dylan and i decided to only do cards this year, i still got a few little things from my parents. i'm not complaining.

i also got a bag of suckers that i used to get as a kid (memories!), chocolate covered popcorn, a mound of cinnamon hot lips (my favorite!), and this bracelet. unfortunately, dylan and i both worked late on valentine's day and couldn't see each other, but we made up for it the next day.

first of all, happy valentine's day!

on saturday, the baking continued with shortbread cookies. these bring back memories of when i was a kid and making them for all holidays with my mom, and decorating them with all the colored icing. and it's also the easiest recipe, basically ever. i mean, there's 4 ingredients!! i had seen these conversation heart cookies all over the internet lately, and figured i had to give it a go. mine are nowhere at neat and perfect as others, but they were fun to make and look at it, and of course, they taste good, too.

dylan took some to work, and apparently they were a huge hit. a few girls asked if i had a shop! haha maybe i need to start doing some baking on the side to pull in a little money and pay my loans off faster?? ;) needless to say, there's all of 3 cookies left. by the end of today, make that 0!

valentines day is in the air; from the chocolate, the pink and red everywhere, and now starbucks' new cups. i'll admit, i may love them more than the christmas cups.

chocolate overload; hot chocolate and m&m's-my weakness.

i have a 4 weekend. lovely, yes, but the lack of hours is no bueno :( i plan on baking up some valentines day treats to keep myself occupied while i'm visiting my parents at home, and possibly seeing the vow with dylan on saturday night. i'll be keeping the makeup to a minimum, wearing waterproof mascara, and loading my purse with kleenex. anyone else seeing the vow this weekend? or doing anything fun?

thank yous and belated v-day...

**thank you for the comments regarding this post and my fear of the doctor and sending good vibes. she figures it's stress and this is my bodies way of reacting to it. with the stress i had of 3 midterms in 2 days, the overall stress of how hard/how much work this semester is, graduation, big changes, finding a job, paying off loans etc..it's just all overwhelming. i'm just waiting for the results of the blood test, but she certain it's nothing serious and i'm A OK. but, i did buy a beginners yoga dvd that i'm going to start doing to help me relax a bit.

**and thank you again for all the love about putting our dog down. they are 100% family and it s.u.c.k.s.


anyways, since i wasn't home for valentines day, i just my presents from my parents on the weekend. yep, i get valentines day gifts :)

nikon d3100 for dummies..this will be very useful for me! and that popcorn in the front-that's caramel popcorn covered in white chocolate. it is absolutely ah-mazing!! it lasted me a day :)

basically, i've still been too busy to learn to use my camera (hence the stress!), but eventually i'll find the time...hopefully by fiddling around with it and using this book, i'll understand it soon enough :)

happy valentines day people!

we were pretty low key this year (well, we are every year), so much so that we didn't even wrap each others gifts! ha. so lazy. and i didn't even have an envelope for the card i got him (when i bought it, i forgot to pic up the envelope. doh)

starbucks bag totally counts as wrapped, no? he loves big mugs, so it's a mug you can write on with a white marker, then bake it and it stays on.. forever!

'love me or i'll kill you'--such a thoughtful gift!!  haha (and it appears i lose my upper lip sometimes when i smile)

we made some crazy 7 layer mexican tortilla pie for dinner last night (recipe here; so good!) and we studied lots. now he's going soon and i have to continue to study for 3 midterms.
