mom and me long weekend...

another long weekend was upon us and the weather couldn't have been better. dylan went up to his uncle's cabin with his uncle, brother, and dad for a guys getaway so my mom decided she would come hang out for the weekend. we spent some time at a few of the different man-made beaches that toronto has, shopping, eating a lot of junk (she always comes with a bag full of chips, candy, and chocolate!) and hanging out back at my place reading. it's been just over 3 years since we've had a 'mom and me' weekend  where she sleeps over since that's how long dylan and i have been living together (wow!).
sugar beach. luckily those clouds were a big, fat lie and it never rained.

an easy breakfast for two on sunday.

after breakfast, we took a walk down to the harbourfront.

another man-made beach!
a perfect spot to dip our toes in the sand and read a book for a couple of hours.

the left side of me got a lovely burn. the right side? still pretty pasty. darn.

more reading on our balcony, just as a big storm hit when my mom left.
holiday monday laziness. (everyone seems to have loved this book, but i thought it was terrible. i  was so happy when i finished it.)
when the afternoon sun got too hot, i moved to our more shaded balcony and started the girl on the train.
just a slight burn, no biggie.

it's always tough going back to work after a long weekend, but i'm lucky that i only have a 3 day week and then we're off for another camping trip on friday morning!

at the beach...

to start the long weekend off on friday, i took a walk down to the "beach" near us. dylan had just gotten in from work at 7am, so it was just me, myself, and i. this particular "beach" is man-made, and just a tiny little thing with a handful of umbrellas and adirondack chairs. given that it was such a hot day, i headed down early in the hopes of grabbing a seat. i grabbed one of the last few available and parked myself there for about an hour. i did some people watching and then watched some of the boats go by in the water in front of me. a perfect start to the weekend.

 toes in the sand.
quenching my thirst when i got home.

sun and sand...

we might be halfway through july, but i had yet to make it to the beach this year until this past saturday. it was a hot, hot, hot day, sitting at 40 degrees celsius. after our night out, we started the day with some cheap breakfast, a walk along queen st (we got free coconut water and i tried it for the first time. i was thoroughly disgusted) & then went back and changed for the beach. luckily we found parking after only a few minutes of driving around. after nearly 2 weeks of crappy, dark, rainy weather, of course everyone flocks to the beach on the first nice weekend! naturally, we were already dying of heat after walking from the car so we stopped for some refreshing frozen yogurt (greek yogurt with cookie dough, coconut, strawberries, & toffee bits for me) and then trekked on the hot sand and plunked ourselves down.

pale as i am, somehow i've always been able to get away with wearing hawaiian tropic spf 4. yesterday was no different; after laying in the sun for 3 hours, and spending a bit of time waist deep in the water (it was clear and there were no fish, not even minnows, so i was a-ok), i escaped any resemblance of a burn. i think i even got a tan. woohoo.
sun is out, beach is busy.
 perfect.

bathing suit: h&m a few years ago.

the cn tower way in the back.
 look! i'm in the water!
all sunned out.

beach days...

all but 2 days were perfect weather. but that's ok because we used those as shopping days (finally part of the j crew club. holla!) and i did pretty good. between the gap, j crew and marshalls, i was able to get 2 pair of shoes, a cardigan, and a nice sweater for $76! anyways, back to the beach. we usually made our way down to park out butts by 10am and be a sun goddess for the day. i managed to get through 2 books, drink mimosas on the beach, and only get a burn on one day, which has since healed and left me with a nice little tan. i'm pretty sure i'm still pale by most peoples standard, but i'm the most tan i've ever been.

as for the ocean. oh boy, the aquatic life. it was quite terrifying. i went about ankle deep and that was that. people were fishing right at the shoreline and catching fish!! and dylan talked to a son and father fishing one night and he said they caught a baby shark. another person said it's only tourists that go in the ocean because they don't know what's in there. that's all i needed to hear! not to mention the minnows. god they scare the crap outta me and they're all around you by the millions. i stuck to the 4 pools, thanks.

taking in the sight of the ocean.
how my days we spent.
he said it was necessary to bury him.
then we gave him boobs and a belly.
ahhh perfect.
nice short lines, eh?
a perfect day.

drinking walmart wine in a water bottle. so much wrong with that.

onto mimosas.
thanks to the lady who offered to take our picture when she saw us with our phone in hand, arm stretched out!

last day :(

does this post win the award for having the most photos? i think it may, yikes. but being on a beach was so nice, and we really don't get to do it very often. long live tans, day drinking, and bathing suits!

a perfect sunrise...

we got back from myrtle beach around supper time last night and i'm still exhausted; we had such an awesome time. but until i recuperate a bit, here's a bunch of photos of a beautiful sunrise.
 one morning from our balcony.
 again, from the balcony.
a 6:30am wake up call to go to the beach to watch.

 beautiful.

crazy what a different setting on the camera can do to a picture.

wee bit tired that early in the morning.
last morning from our balcony.

i miss waking up to bright red sky every morning.

ps. happy 5th birthday to my favorite baby girl, chloe!! 5 years already?!
you're growing up too fast. *tear*
