sandy in canada...

while we certainly weren't in the eye of the storm, we did feel the effects. when i came home from work, dylan had made me a 'stay safe' kit for the storm, since he had to leave for nights around 9:30 last night. there were some high winds, and heavy rain at times, but overall, we had it really easy.
 the kit.
 plus chloe.
off to work he goes, leaving his girls behind.
us girls, braving it. i've got chloe, she's got her fish. we were ready.
the one casualty.

the power never went out, we never lost internet or cable, and the rain tapered off. the one thing that did happen was that our gate on our deck FLEW off and toppled down all the stairs. we were in our living room and dylan was getting ready to go and we hear a loud noise. he went to look out our side door and said the gate had blown off. i, of course, didn't believe him until i looked myself. kinda wild. hope everyone stayed safe, and if you're out of power, that it comes back soon.

sugar high...

dylan taking overtime on a friday night + treats we bought earlier in the day + a pumpkin spice latte + the hangover part 2 = my friday night.

ok, and a little friends, too (& i just realized our clock is wrong).

ps. hangover 2 isn't nearly as good as the first (not surprising), the cinnamon bun was to die for (cream cheese frosting), and i couldn't eat more than 3 bites of the cookie, because the latte and cinnamon bun were enough junk for me in one sitting.

a new job...

i mentioned at the end of my post on friday that i had an interview. um, talk about the easiest interview ever.  i was *this close* to calling and changing the time because of how terrible i was feeling, but the cramps started going away and i figured i would just go and get it out of the way. i got there and she told me a little bit about the company and the only question she asked me was, "where do you see yourself down the road?" after that, she said she was really impressed with the work i had done for an event (talked a little about that here) and she said originally, the job was for answering phones and admin stuff, but overall, she felt i could do more. i was hired on the spot.

so where is it? well, i won't say exactly; i don't like to get too specific on here regarding jobs. but i will say it's at a portrait studio, and after 10 days of training, i'll probably slowly start taking passport photos, family photos, and kids portraits. a little random, but hopefully it'll be fun. the best part is that it's full time for november/december. after that, the hours will probably go down because this is the busy season, but there's the option of being hired on full time. so we'll see where things go :) dylan will start making his big bucks in january or february, so if the hours really do dwindle for me, or i decide i absolutely hate it for some reason, it'll be ok.
yay!

in addition to this new job (which i start today!), i'll also be keeping the part time job i have now. i do a lot of work from home (i run a facebook page and twitter for an organization), and only go into the office 2x a week usually at 4hrs a pop. so i should be able to manage keeping it. it'll just give us that extra bit of bonus money, which will be nice.

wish me luck! (luck on the fact that it's my first day and i'll be working 9 hour shifts for a while. whoa)

the walking dead...

blood, guts, gore, and death; that's how we spent our saturday. sounds lovely, no? that's right, we went to the toronto zombie walk.
20 minutes of work went a long way.

deadly.
i liked the black and white, too.
ready to hit the road!
this is how it was the whole day; he was a hit.

'zombie grinder' on the top right won first place.

this guy was great, just a simple 'fresh meat' sign.
our trio.
(human) snacks? kind of funny placement considering it's a zombie walk.
more zombies, doing their thang.
it was like this literally every step of the 2km walk. it was insane. and weird. kind of an indication of how celebs feel?
zombies stop at stop lights, too.
breaking out in smiles.
zombies take over yonge dundas square.

they were expecting about 10,000 people to show up and i'm betting that many, if not more, did. we all met at nathan phillip square before the walk and there so many photographers there just taking everyone's picture. i guess it's a pretty cool event to go and get some great shots. some people really went all out and it was pretty impressive. while a lot of people stopped me to take my picture (it was so hard to stay in character and not smile), dylan stole the show. i think he scared a lot of people by then seeing his 'clean' side first, and then he would turn and there would be an empty eye socket! fairly certain we'll be back next year as we had a blast!

last night...

last night, i got together with a girl friend and we got to work. a scary movie on in the background, sangria, and a little fake blood.

full story on monday!
(in other news, i woke up at 6:30 with quite possibly the worst cramps i've ever experienced. the shaking is uncontrollable, i constantly feel like i'm going to throw up, and the pain is just agonizing. pills are doing zilch. and to top it off, i've got an interview at 11am. yayyy)

why?

yesterday on twitter, i read the news that 149 small-breed dogs had been rescued from 'deplorable conditions' and the local SPCA was asking for donations of towels, blankets, litter pans etc. As soon as i told dylan, he said, "lets go. right now. we're buying blankets and bringing stuff over." i gathered up some old blankets and towels we had here (new, actually, just not used), and we then went and bought about 8 blankets and 4 dog beds to take over. it was nice to see that there was already a lot there that other people had dropped off.
piles outside. and even more inside.

people like that disgust me. why do they exist? i have a heart for animals over people; i help the ones that can't help themselves. if you live in this area, maybe, just maybe, drop a blanket or 2 off?  (short article here)

sunday family dinner...

now that i'm back in the same city as my parents, we usually go over to dinner every sunday. my parents are pretty awesome cooks and they're always trying new recipes (usually from the food network, my dads favorite). sunday was my mom's birthday, so my dad decided this was perfect time to bust out his (very old) pasta maker. he's been talking about making homemade pasta for ages. by the time we got there at 2pm, he had had the homemade sauce simmering for hours, the homemade apple crumble ready to go in the oven later, and the chicken ready to be cut and breaded for chicken parmesan.

looking on anxiously while my dad does the work.

look at all that goodness just laying out.

lady and the tramp anyone?
dylan's massive plate. his eyes were bigger than his stomach. he did not finish!

i can't even explain to you how good this meal was; it was to die for. we were all raving-dad did good! we had to wait a few hours before we could even think about the apple crumble. luckily, we were sent home with a tonne of leftovers and we had it again for dinner last night, and there's still some left!

not a care in the world...

have you ever seen someone look so relaxed? she kills me.

girls got it made.

end of the world...

last week, we had the most ridiculous fog i've ever seen; it was a wall of white. it wasn't bad when we were driving (hence why we thought it would be a good idea to go for a hike), but once we got among the trees, it was crazy.

just a wall of white. usually you look down to a forest and a city beyond that.

tiny people.
for comparison, this is what you would usually look out to (taken 3 years ago); this is the same spot as the jumping picture above and the one of the teeny tiny us.

it was literally like being at the very end of the earth. we couldn't see a thing looking out and it actually got kind of freaky. now, we just have to make it back again on a better day before the leaves all fall off and the trees die.
