gridlocked...

to end our long weekend, we headed to my parents to have a bbq yesterday.  we had barely gotten on the highway when it slowed right down. then all of a sudden, we were completely stopped, gridlocked. after a few minutes of absolutely no movement, i took to twitter to find a traffic update and for once it wasn't due to construction! turns out there was a poor baby deer on the highway and cops had been trying to get her for hours. finally a zoo vet came and was able to get the little one tranquilized and taken away safely. in the meantime, the bugger shut down the highway both ways for 3 hours!!

it looked like a scene out of a zombie movie when everyone is trying to leave the city. people were getting out of their cars, talking to one another, taking photos of a completely stopped highway. it was kind of eerie. 

 when else do you get to stand in the middle of a highway?

in the end, we ourselves were only delayed about 45 minutes, and the fact that the deer is safe is all that matters, really.
