the man cave...

about a month ago, dylan's uncle had said he was getting rid of one his tv's because it would 'click' for about 5 minutes before it finally turned on. dylan thought, "hey, i could probably fix that", so his uncle gave it to us. a day later, with the help of google and youtube, dylan had replaced a few parts on the circuit board for a total of $3 and fixed the tv to good as new. this was his first time doing something like this, and he surprised himself, along with me, that was successful.
working away.
 quite the dusty tv. oops.
how his days are spent.

we now have 3 (pretty big) tv's in our 2 bedroom apartment. i've take over the living room, and dylan has pretty much claimed the office as his 'man cave' since i always keep my computer in the living room. i swear, once he becomes addicted to a video game, he's a gremlin that sits in that room all day, sometimes in the dark, playing away and comes out to eat dinner and to go to work. until he completes the game and i see him for a day or 2. then he starts a new one up and we go back to our 'separate' lives. i'm not complaining though; one of my big fears moving in together was losing the 'me time' that i had grown so accustomed to living alone for 5 years. so play away dyl, play away!

shake it, shake it...

yesterday dylan and i took the birthday girl out for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants that's all local ingredients; the food is just incredible. afterwards we came back to our place, hung out, ate some cake that i had made, and maybe, just maybe, made a harlem shake video. don't worry, you'll see it below.
i can bake and cook, but i cannot ice a cake.

 birthday girl.

so we did indeed do the harlem shake. personally, i think all the videos are hilarious and love them. my friend had never heard/seen them so of course, we showed them to her. then what do you know..we were making our own. it's so stupid, but that's the harlem shake in general, right? enjoy!

happy birthday...

happy 26th birthday to my best since the age of 2! i've chosen a few photos that show us at our best ;)
 2006 new years.
 jersey shore, season 1 finale.
 busting moves at a wedding.
 23rd birthday.
 our trio.
just another birthday.

we're taking her out for lunch today and then celebrating this weekend in toronto. doing what we haven't done in years and likely renting a limo or a party bus so no one has to worry about hotels or driving. is it saturday yet???

instagram update...

a little of what's going on in these parts lately...
dad made rice balls stuffed with either mozzarella or fig goat cheese. they were real good.
chloe plops herself right between us at night; throwback thursday-me as anne of green gables for halloween in the 90's.
roll up the rim is back, i never win; the handsome mr man (my parents cat)
this one wanted to join me in the bath so badly last night. she got her front end in, and was teetering  on the edge, but couldn't get her hind legs in. had the water not been so hot, i would have given her the push in ;)

happy weekend all!

wipe out...

the weather has been all kinds of up and down lately. somewhat warm, really cold, rain, then snow. basically it's resulted in quite a bit of ice on the grounds. i was walking to my boss' house yesterday and made it all the way there, teetering while watching my every step (i mean, it's only a 5 minute walk away) and then right in front of the house beside hers..BAM. down i go. right on my side. ouch.

a lady walking her dog just down the street stopped her walk to make sure i was able to get up and her dog was barking at crazy at me haha she yelled out asking if i was ok, and i gave her the thumbs up. but oh am i in pain. i instantly got bruising and bumps and redness on my right forearm. my right thigh is pretty sore and i'm surprised there's not more of a bruise because it feels like there's one the size of a baseball. and to top it off, the last 2 days, i've had a kink in my neck from sleeping and i can't barely turn my head to the right haha i'm a mess.  it's actually worse today, on the 3rd day, and i'm wondering if the fall made it worse somehow?

pass the tylenol!

our staycation...

friday was a bit of a crazy day for dylan. he had an odd day shift, working from 6am-4:30pm, then when he got home, he got called in for another shift from 9pm-2am. in the short time that he was home, he told me to pick a place and book a hotel where ever i wanted. i didn't want to drive too far (though chicago and michigan were looked at as options just because), so i tried to look for places within a 2-3 hour drive. ultimately, we chose toronto and booked a room at the fairmont royal york. a few weeks ago, dylan had said that he wanted to start staying in only fairmont hotels haha and so this was our first stay with them. our staycation was full of mostly eating, and a minor blizzard all saturday, and it couldn't have been better.

 the lobby.

sleeping quarters for the night.
the best part of hotels.

after we checked in, we walked to the st. lawrence market, wandered around, went for a delicious dinner at hey lucy, saw 'side effects' with movie passes we had (we both really liked it), then went for dessert and coffee/wine at a favorite of ours; 7 west. all of this was done walking in crazy blowing snow. when we got in for the night, we got comfy in the robes and relaxed.
one of the biggest, sweetes dogs i've ever seen. he was patiently waiting for his owner outside of a store and had a million people all around taking his picture. not a care in the world. and his poor tongue couldn't stay in his mouth :(

lotsa snow comin' down.
they were a little big.
tired.tired.get me to the bed.

sunday was frigid cold, sitting at about -20c, so after a late breakfast, and a stroll along bloor st, we just couldn't handle it anymore and headed home. this weekend felt different than just a day trip to the city and i would definitely say our staycation was a success!

a holiday...

happy family day to my fellow canadians! i'm about to start our day off with coffee, french press of course, then going to my parents a bit later. when i told dylan that my mom had plans to watch 1 home video, and pull out a few old albums, he was all, "you guys are really taking this family day seriously, eh?" sure, why not?

from our little weird family to yours!

valentine's day...

how was everyone's valentine's day?? hope it was full of sweets and loved ones, even if you're not in a relationship. any excuse to eat candy is fine by me. i woke up to some chocolate and flowers on the table, while dylan slept the morning away from being on nights. we started our afternoon trying out a new coffee place and then wandering around the mall. we went with mexican for dinner and it was a huge hit. gauc, nachos, enchiladas, sangria, margs..mm mm!

*someone* needs a haircut.

ugh that food was so good. i wish there was leftovers, but we ate it all.
muah, i love you.

we ended our day watching the oh-so-romantic hannibal and then ending the night fairly early since dylan got called into a random day shift starting at 6am this morning.

ps. do you think the candy is all on sale yet?? i'm hoping so. i've got a few bucks left on a gift card at a place i'll be passing today. *fingers crossed*

sweet tooth...

in honor of valentine's day tomorrow, i thought i would get a little sweet on here and share some valentines treats i've made. our first valentine's day in 2007, we had been dating a mere 2.5 months and i was still living at my parents. there was a massive snow storm out there and dylan made his way to me with a 2hr car ride, which should have taken 15 minutes. he had made me a heart shaped cake with pink icing (with the help of his grandma) and it was the first time that 'i love you' was exchanged. i know i have pictures, but i can't find them anywhere on my computer. *sad* anyways, that's a quick little story of our first valentine's day!

vday 2009 was the first time i ever made red velvet cake (and the firs time i ever tasted it) and what started my love affair.

young'ins

last year, i made conversation heart cookies, which were a hit. i could go for 1 (or 6) today.

perhaps i'll have to see what we have in our cupboards that i can whip up today or tomorrow...hmm...
