birthday celebrations...

birthday girl!!! there was a surprise under the cupcakes as people ate away...she loves twilight (and the men) lol-surprisingly, this was dylans idea! funny faces come out

a few of our friends got together at diana's house before hand to have some snacks and drinks before we headed out for her bday. we planned on going to the same place as last week, an irish pub, but when we got there, the line was really long, and after waiting a good 20 minutes, we decided to go to the place across the street..whoa, sketchy! haha all walks of people there, from 'juicehead' guittos to wannabe thugs to s.l.u.t.t.y. lookin girls....not our typical type of place..but we grabbed a table in the corner and everyone had some shots and drinks and made it a fun night.

i think this is the first REAL snow 'storm' we have had all 'winter'...i say 'storm' because it's not really, i mean, ya it's coming down...but it's melting when it hits the wet roads. although it is piling up on surfaces that are cold, like the bit of snow that was here before. and i say 'winter' because we really haven't had much of one. it has been quite mild and just the odd dusting of snow thus far..which is really weird. so i was happy to wake up today to this! and because my mom was able to get me last night from toronto, so i made it home for the weekend.

i love the snow! i love just sitting inside and watching it pour down. now i'm realizing, i guess this could be considered a storm. it's only calling for about 5cm though..i don't know, but i sure like it!

a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY

goes out to my bestie...she turns 23 today!! wooo ...
we were in gymnastics together when we were 2 years old..we were both rockin' the sweaters and little tights and high pony tails, and jumping into sponges. i have video of this at home, its fun to watch. we went to elementary school together (the one or 2 times we had diff teachers, i think i had a meltdown lol), then obvi high school, and we even went to college together. now she is in university and graduating nursing in about 2 months and i'm here in toronto. she is celebrating her birthday this weekend (duh) and my mom is supposed to pick me up after my class tonight to go home for the weekend. but see, the weather is say there is gonna be about 7 inches of snow or something, and the driving conditions may be bad..and she might not come..understandable..she said she would come tomorrow if that was the case..unless it is still bad then too...and then i would miss the birthday celebrations..NOO!!!! but, that's it, that's all.

last weekend, before this weekend hits me in the face..

so last weekend was the end of reading week..it came far to fast, i got not nearly enough work done--wait, scratch that, NO work done..i had every intention to do things, but i failed.

the bathroom had good light...and he is stone sober..

but, saturday, i went out with my girlfriends and dylan (they just love him lol) to a little irish bar and celebrated, or maybe that's the wrong word, the end of reading week! unfortunately, there were no pics taken when we actually went out...

last night in the library, trying to get work done on a paper...notsomuch...i got about 1 page done. oh school, you're killin' me...

the most wonderful time of the year...

yesterday dylan and i booked our trip to NYC!! i could not be more excited. his 3rd time, my 8th. every time, i think i get more excited. for the two of us to make our round trip from toronto to nyc, it will cost us a grant total of $28 canadian. yep, $14 each. total steal. 67 days away-which better fly by! his exams finish april 27 and his summer classes start may 3, so we really only had a few days to play with, and luckily it worked out perfectly.

this year, we decided to forego the usual hotel stay and look up vacation rentals. since it will be the high season when we go (april 28), mostly every place i checked had a 3 night or 5 night minimum, and we are only staying 2. we also really wanted to keep it under 200$ a night. we found one that looked perfect, with a 2 night minimum and $200 a night. so we emailed, but that was the winter rate, and the spring rate would be 275. we thought it was too much, but after much frustration, searching, emailing other places (only to be misled by the minimum nights and winter rates that were still on the sites, which did not say winter), we realized it would be worth it. plus, we have our own private garden!! which, is amazing and makes up a little for the price. and all the reviews of the place were fantastic.

plus, we wanted to stay in and around the chelsea and greenwich village area-which is my #1 fave area. and it's exactly what we got.

we will be staying on a cute littlte tree lined street like this, we will have a kitchen, and a private garden-all sounds perfect to me! (photo from flickr)
if this all works out, which i don't see why it won't, i think we will stick do this, instead of the hotels.
i can't wait to have a glass of wine in our garden at night and have a stroll around the book stores, have a coffee at the cafe's and browse the marc jacobs stores ;)

reading week is almost done..

well, yesterday dylan and i went for a public swim near by at the rec centre-i hadn't been swimming at this pool in soo long. i used to take lessons and got pretty close to being a life guard, but then i stopped. anyways, it was fun! we did some laps, played around, and got some exercise. downside=my hair was soo soo knotted when i got out, leave in conditioner spray still made it hard to get through. i went home and showered it took 2x conditioner. ew.

but today-is a good day. dylan and i (and i think my friend diana, if she gets in enough studying this afternoon for her exam tomorrow) are going to the buffet in the casino across the border!! we went 2 years ago, and OMG, we have never felt so sick after eating so much food; but good food. there was so many things to choose from. americans know how to eat! the buffet on the canadian side just doesn't even compare. we went last summer and we were majorly disappointed. so i'm eating on the light side the whole day so i can stuff my face around 530 and be utterly sick around 630. sounds like a plan.

family day fun...

today was family day, so everything was closed and it was a little holiday. around noon, we got some nachos prepared and my parents, dylan and i watched julie and julia..it was ok..i thought it was a little slow, but my mom loved it!! then after that we watched some snowboarding olympics (yaa canada's silver!) ..

then it was dinner and we had indian..and it was so so good. tandori chicken, butter chicken, basmati rice, these 3 tips-there was a lentil one, an eggplant one and a veggie one. and then there was cool pita chip things that were completely flat round things and as soon as you put them in a bit of oil, they expanded and curled up and became like a giant chip-all in 1-2 seconds. and finally we had a 'traditional' indian mango smoothie, so says michael smith of the food network. either way it was delicious.

after dinner, we watched the first episode of the first season of dexter-i have always wanted to watch that show because i know it would be something i would like-and i did. anywho, dyl went home after that and my mom and i watched the bachelor-what a bore!
well, that was my day in a nutshell!

on friday, i couldn't help myself...i had to make my valentines day cakes early. actually at about 930am, i made these little chocolate hearts...i saw it on regis and kelly earlier in the week, and so i just tried a few..some are better than others ha but i only made about 8 just to see. then in the afternoon i made red velvet whoopie pies!! woot woot

i found they were easier and took a lot less time than the regular red velvet cake i make..and they were sooo good!!! although i do have to say-the recipe called to put parchment paper down on the cookie sheet-and i put wax paper, thinking it was the same thing. about 5 minutes after being in the oven, it started smoking lol luckily, the cakes had already started to set in that time, so they were able to be transfered over to parchment paper and put back in the oven easily..and then they came out about another 7 minutes later, the house smelled great and i iced away with the cream cheese frosting. this recipe is a keeper!

surprises are good..

dylan just got to my place now. his midterms finished at 730ish and since we hadn't seen each other in almost 2 weeks, he decided to come up tonight..(he couldn't wait until i was home tomorrow night! lol i'll be back at my parents for reading week!) anyways, he knows how much i love post secret and i want to get all the books, however my collection is at 0 right now. well until tonight. he surprised me with one of the books! very happy girl :)

i just found the gaga one, but my 2 absolute faves are the michael jackson medley and the glee cover of dont stop believing. incredible. for the jackson and glee ones, it was all edited by his friend to make it look like there are a group of all him-but really, it's one single guy.

i saw this link on the glamour blog and had to try it out. i was filling out the info after i made the little video and it asked for my address, city what not and zip code-and it wouldn't let me put in letters (here in canada, we have letters and numbers in our postal codes) so i made one up! lol the video had to be reviewed and i totally didn't think it would make it through because of that, but it did! haha anyways, i'm a nerd on camera, totally awkward and it's kinda hard to tell what i'm saying at parts, but check it out here if you want :)

put a smile on a strangers face

that's what chloe does whenever i take her out for a walk.
especially when she is in her nifty pink coat and red boots, like she was today.
people always smile when they're coming towards me and chloe's tail is wagging happily and her hair is all scruffy! i know it makes me smile too to see dogs all around the city.
she'll get people that talk to her too on the corners waiting for the light to change. such a people loving little pet.

and he's off...

so dylan is in london by now..*sad face* i'll try and keep myself busy though. i think my friend might come up on sunday so we can go see dear john.. yesterday after my stats midterm, it was such a huge relief to be done, that i had to treat myself to a cupcake-of course it wouldn't be anything but red velvet. however, on a side not, it was not very good, crumbly and it didn't really taste like cream cheese icing-more like a mixture of that and buttercream and i HATE buttercream..

anyways....i think i feel like just reading all day in bed and writing out some lecture notes, other than that, i have class at 6. i also want to pick up the new copy of glamour magaine if it on newsstands yet-i'm really liking the mz beckham spread in there. mmmhhmm
this was a post of a bunch of nothing, so i'm off!

a weekend sans the boy..

thursday morning at 6am, dylan leaves for the weekend to go to london (ontario, not england!) to work a warehouse sale for his store-and he won't be back until sunday! of course, it is the weekend that my week of hell is over and i have ZIP work to do..great timing! lol but maybe my girlfriends will come for a visit. other than that, i plan on relaxing, doing some reading (not school related), grabbing a coffee at the cafe, doing some yoga, ya know.picture from our hike in..2008!? geez, time flies!! probably should have cropped out a lot of the ground in that picture, but regardles...
i last saw dyl saturday morning and i likely won't see him again until..valentines weekend :( on the plus side, that is reading week, so i will be home at my parents for about 9 days!!
