boo, you suck...

remember when my fridge went out last january, and i lost all my food (in the freezer too)? yeah, that sucked! well sure enough, last monday my food felt somewhat warm again. now, my kitchen power is connected to my bedroom power, so sometimes it goes out and i just go downstairs and flick the power breaker thingy and it's back to normal. it's also connected to another apartment, so i guess if we both have a lot of stuff running, it goes out. sometimes when i get home, i see my bedroom clock flashing, meaning the power went out. so on monday after coming home from the beach, the stuff in the fridge felt somewhat warm. my first thought was that the power went out and no one went down and flicked the switch for a couple hours. following? does this only make sense to me? it's hard to explain. after coming home from the fireworks at midnight, everything was WARM, including all the stuff in my packed freezer.

so, it was done again. i called my landlord tuesday morning, and of course, he wasn't in canada. perfect timing eh! (he wasn't last time either) so he told me he would get back to me wednesday morning when he got back. he did, and gave me a number to call to schedule a guy to come out. i called the company, and they couldn't get anyone out until thursday!! when he came, he said yep, it's completely done and i needed a new one! well how long would that take?! either way, i was going home for the weekend. it came friday morning when i wasn't here and the landlord let them in. so now i have a brand new fridge.

what sucked? living on a famine diet for about 4 days; that consisted of crumpets and peanut butter, oatmeal, a mcflurry for dinner one night, a fruit salad another night. it was awful. even the food that i keep in my cupboard needed stuff in the fridge to be made. simple things like soup, cereal, coffee..i couldn't make!! it was awful. i was starved. i could have eaten out every meal, but i didn't; i didn't want to spend all that money, and i didn't want to eat fast food 3 meals a day for 3 or 4 days. but, now it's all done, i'm all stocked up again and i can resume normal eating again tomorrow..woo hoo

the upside? i lost about 2lbs haha

in other news, yay it's friday! and i'm home at my parents for the weekend :)

first gear, it's alright, second gear, lean right....

once we got home from the beach, we changed, hummed and hawed at whether we should take chloe with us and decided that yes, we should. seriously, every dog that walked by on the beach, i was like "i miss chloe, we should have brought her!" but it was just too hot and it wouldn't have been fair-next time we're going just for her, and we won't go as long, and maybe on a day when it isn't 35 degrees.

anyway, chloe was a champ and went on the subway and bus with us to get back to the beach for the fireworks! yay for her haha she just chilled on her own seat on the subway, and people smiled at her like usual, cuz she's cute you know.check her out! not the happiest girl, but it wasn't a long trip.family photos while waiting for the works to startshe doesn't realize she's kinda heavy, and she likes to stand on meshe has one fast tongue...i don't have one of those awesome cameras with the ability to capture the fireworks in a really cool way-working on that one. so this is what turned out kind of..
i was nervous of what chloe would think of the fireworks; would she be shivering, scared, hating me because i brought her? nope! she layed in my lap, her heart wasn't even beating fast and her little head just turned and watched what was going on (even though black and white for her, how sad). i was so happy because now i know she can come to more! :)

monday was victoria day-aka a holiday!-and boy was it gorgeous. it was a hot 30degrees and dylan and i enjoyed sitting on a patio and laying on the beach.this truck was just cute..

drinks to be had..burgers to be eaten..(2 patties may i add-1f full pound..because it was the special and it was the same price as a 1 pattie burger!! i did not finish it, no lol)10 second timers to be set...rock balancing sculptures to be seen...funny tan lines (attempted) to be made haha didn't work..as you can see, the beach was the place to be yesterday, or any day in the summer really..

it was a great day; i got no color-no tan, no burn that could turn into a tan-what gives?! we were out for 5+ hours!! we got back home around 5, had another little something to eat, changed and pretty much turned right back around and went back to the beaches for the fireworks, with chloe! since this post is already long, i'll leave that for tomorrow :)

hey soul sister...

well look at that-it's friday AND it's a long weekend; May 2-4...yay! it's my first year not seeing fireworks this time of year in a long time, makes me kind of sad..oh well, i'll live right?
(UPDATE: yay i will be seeing fireworks afterall! duh! dylan will be here and of course toronto would have fireworks; we were planning on going to the beaches monday anyway and that's just where they happen to be that night :) )

on another note, we planned our first camping trip! well, the date anyways. we still have to pick a spot to go. it's not till june 25, so it's still awhile away, but it will come fast, considering we went to NYC almost a month ago already!! camping=fires, s'mores, spider dogs with diana sauce, hanging out in shorts, bikinis and straw hats, drinking, a lot of corn, taking ridiculous pictures, swimming in some ugly water, laughing and all in all good times. i went twice last year, and one of the times i was the only girl, so i got my own pee tree!

see, isn't that special?? haha with a toilet paper roll and all!

it's another gorgeous day in the city, and i hope to enjoy it even though i have some reading to do..i finally got my coursepack for my summer course 10 days later! it's been 10 days of hearing 'it's not ready yet' or 'oh, we just ran out, another 2 days' blah blah blah..order enough for the class!! so ya, now i have 4 lectures of readings to catch up on..but i will get out!

today is our half year anniversary! 3.5 years to be exact-a little cheesy to mention this? yes, probably. haha but seriously, where did the time go!?we.are.tough.we're also pretty cool. and good looking. if you didn't notice. (circa summer 2007)

i want to go to the beach...

like soon...the weather is heating up (well for a few days anyways, then the weekend calls for rain) and i'm itching to get out there! not to mention, when i was h&m the other day with my mom, i picked up some black linen pants (never would have thought i would like them, but they're comfy and cute) and a bathing suit top. all their swimwear pieces are $5.95 each! of course the one i saw and wanted wasn't that price, but $17 is still a good deal!can't wait to wear it! but i must say, it's odd how differently they size bikini tops (and maybe bottoms too, i didn't try any on) from regular clothes. see, that little top there is a size 8, and i do not have big boobs! so anyone a little bigger just can't buy tops there?! seems a little ridiculous to me.with all this beach talk, it reminds me that i need to really cut down on the chips, cupcakes, brownies and all the other crap. i eat great all day long (tonnes of fruit, yogurts, crumpets, sandwich, water etc) but my downfall is after 8pm when i watch my shows. i sit on the couch and eat. i eat bad foods. and i eat too much bad foods. so that has to change. i'm trying to start running (HA!) which is horrendous and i've been doing the stairs lately. what i really need to do is get my ass back to bikram yoga-ya i still have a 10 class pass. ugh...
this post turned from beaches to bikinis to my bad food habits..but i suppose they all flow together, right? well that's all for today folks. have a good one!

just feel the beat...

i first saw the link to this video on perez, but i didn't watch it. then about half hour later i saw it on another site so i figured i had to watch it. it was about 1030 at night and i about died laughing. my mom was in bed reading and i had to show her right away. same response, she was hysterical. after i left her room, the cries of laughter got louder haha. then i went and showed my dad downstairs, and he laughed too. and then my girlfriends, and dylan, and chloe..and you get the point.

maybe some of you have already seen this, there's a good chance; but i had to share. hey, it's monday, i'm sure everyone could use a laugh!



anyways, i'm not sure anyone actually knows who the woman in the video is; whether it's a wedding guest, or his wife or g/f (lets hope for wife or g/f, even though it's still so wrong lol)

just lovin' the park-dylan and i even let her off leash! i was more of a nervous mama about that than dylan was, but she was great.

all tuckered out from her walk/run in the park. she's such a scruffy little girl, but about an hour later, she went and had a haircut!

on an unrelated note, i went to walmart with my mom this weekend. we were just browsing around, came across the shoe department and they had so many cute wedges! i picked up these ones; pretty cute, no? and they're actually surprisingly comfortable! wootwoot (my heels need cream, yes, so you may not want to enlarge the picture, ha! ew)-oh, and i should add that they were only $25!

in other news, i'll be heading back to toronto (i'm home at my parents) on monday, instead of the usual sunday (ie today!). one of the main highways was closed all weekend, until 5am tomorrow, there were 2 sports games happening this weekend, and 200 buses of girl scouts were coming into the city-the news was saying that traffic would be atrocious. so my mom wanted to wait until monday. whatever, works for me! lastly, it's a gorgeous day out, so that's just good news :)

cupcakes reinvented..kind of

after the great dessert debate, i decided on making red velvet/cheesecake marbled cupcakes. i made the cheesecake part first, and boy did it smell good. then the cake part; red velvet batter tastes amazing i might add. anyways, these came out ok. i didn't love them as i hoped, they were just good. the cupcake was just a little bit dry and i wish there was more cheesecake on top. if i were to make these again, i think i would double the cheesecake recipe part so there was a thicker layer on the cupcake. i think i would also cut the orange zest in half (it's in the cheesecake), it was a wee bit too strong for me, i wanted to taste more cupcake. or i could just put none at all. and there was actually more of a coco taste in this recipe too. so, all in all, i guess i'm saying i much prefer Paula Deen's recipe. next time, i would just make her recipe, and follow the cheesecake recipe from the one i made. although, the cream cheese icing was amazing!! yummm...this review sounds kind of negative, but i would still give it about a 7/10. and it's not like they won't be eaten-oh they will! my pictures aren't great, but the cupcakes looked cool at least with the swirls and all.

would definitely add more cheesecake next time

anywho, today my mom and i are heading out to a furniture store-she wants to show me a couch and 2 wing back chairs she has picked out for the living room, to see what i think. other than that, i'm not doing much. it's a pretty nice day, about 17 degrees, so hopefully i can enjoy it.

dessert dilemma...

so, first off-it's another crummy day out. it's drizzling, raining some, grey, wet. but that's ok, gives me time to cuddle on the couch with a blanket, chloe and a book. although i do have to pack and clean before i go to class tonight; my mom is going to be here when i get back from class to take me home for the weekend. moving on...
if you read yesterday, you know it was dylan's birthday. on friday, hopefully the weather will be decent, dylan is coming for dinner and my parents are going to have a bbq (he's there for dinner practically every time i'm home, so this isn't much different haha). my dilemma now is what to make for dessert. he suggested red velvet cupcakes. now, if you've been reading long enough, or if you should know one thing about me, it's that i.love.red.velvet;anything. cake, cupcakes, whoopie pies, ice cream, and whatever other form it may come in!! i'll eat it until i feel so sick and look 6 months pregnant. it's just that good.
i normally make paula deen's recipe, which is delicious. and the icing is to die for. but i thought, maybe there's a better recipe out there?

i thought about this, it's got cheesecake IN THE MIDDLE!?! ohmygod. (pictures and recipe here)
but then i figured, this is a big, and heavy cake. and let's face it; it's just my parents, dylan and i. this would be better saved for when more people are going to be eating it (and dylan-you eating half the cake yourself doesn't count! ha). but this is saved in my favorites, it will be made!!

this has kind of turned into a post about how much i love red velvet, but i swear, dylan loves it too, and he was the one that suggested it! :)
so my question-does anyone know of a red velvet recipe that you swear by? or something that you think is even better (probably not possible ha!) than red velvet!? share!

dylan's day

happy 24th birthday to dylan!!this was last july-on our way to niagara on the lake with my parentscamping last year-this picture looks all sorts of wrong haha but he was just trying to get the smoke away from his eyes and i happened to snap the picture at just the right time lol

i know we don't get to see each other today :( (and you have class tonight) but i hope your day is good anyways!! i'll be coming home tomorrow night for the weekend and you know i will bake you up something delicious ;)

random & another award!

first off, i must say-yesterday was freezing!! what gives!? i seriously pulled out my fall/winter coat..ahhh! so, as everyone knows, it was mothers day. my mom came to toronto and we went and had lunch at 7 west cafe. i love this place. and it's open 24/7. it seriously never closes; ever. it's a perfect little date spot for me and dylan too. after lunch, we walked around the city a bit, grabbed some starbucks, then came back and took chloe for a walk. then we just hung around my place for the night and watched the finale of amazing race and desperate housewives. i love my mom. then she went back home..
next up...i got the 'sweet award' from both Carina and Kim Humes, so thank you ladies! because i'm kind of lazy (sorrrry) i'm going to pass this on to two people.

did i get bamboozled?

this is what i picked up at the flea market in NYC, the one that was just a little sketchy..there was a table of shoes (some random, some designer), amongst the mess of records, frames, books, clothes, hats and everything else you imagine flea markets selling. i saw the red soles and thought, there is no way they are real, knockoff for sure. i mean, i've never owned a pair, so i wasn't even sure what i was looking for, to see if there was a tell-tale sign of being fake or real. the bottom of the shoes aren't worn at all (except for me trying them on on the bumpy, rocky, asphalt)and the left shoe has a sticker from bergdorf's on it. it looks like it's been on there a while. would these people go through the trouble of putting stickers on the bottom of shoes to make them seem more legit? i don't know. the soles look exactly the same as what is in stores (i obviously had to go to holt renfrew to check the bottom of theirs).
but how could i leave them there in the off chance they're legit? that's right, i couldn't. i only gave the girl $30 anyways, so if i got bamboozled (which i probably did), then at least she didn't empty my pockets..right? right. and they're cute! anyone out there who can tell me the truth? (you can enlarge this picture) for now, they're just hanging out on a shadow box...
