sun, sand, books, love

yesterday was a gorgeous day in the city!! we picked a perfect weekend to come up...so yesterday morning, we started early and went to do a few errands before we headed off to the beach,,,you know-haircut for dylan, get some sunscreen to protect from the rays ;) and to look for another book at the bookstore..this time- it was lethal marriage about paul bernardo and karla homolka..very creepy read thus far. we got back home just before 12 then packed up to go the beach--sunglasses, snacks, waters, book, towel..all the necessaries!!

hey there

we walked along the boardwalk, got an icecream from the truck and looked for a spot to lay..it got sooo hot and the beach was packed!!

we opted to lay in the grass under some trees so we werent in direct sunlight-then, we just read..it was lovely. we moved back and forth from the shade, to the sun, to the shade, then on the sand..we also got free red bulls from girls handing them out..great idea on such a hot day!

after laying there and reading for a bit, dylans friend met up with us and we walked along queen, where all the little shops are in the beaches..ended up at lion on the beach for some dinner and the day didnt stop there..we hopped on a streetcar and went to kensington market for a stroll..too bad it was just before 7 and everything was closing up. so we hung around there a little bit and then went on home. we walked in the door around 830 and we were exhausted. what a long day!! but it couldnt have been better.

we ♥ books

back to the city

dylan and i are back in toronto..
we are having a mini 3 day vaca--heading home monday at some point..
i think we were in desperate need of a getaway-with not one full day to spend together since we got back from NYC 3 weeks ago, this should be fun...
he's been working non stop, ive been working and im just miserable from work and not being in toronto like i wanted to be..so here we are, just the 2 of us!

gotta say, i was a little nervous to come here, due to the garbage strike and all-however, ive seen none on the ground yet, it doesnt smell and i have yet to see rats! lol

after we got here, we headed out to h&m bc i forgot to bring my bathing suit and we plan on going to the beaches tomorrow-knowing that they sell the bathing suit pieces seperate, and i had a credit left, and theyre cheap-i knew to start there...and i got one...a purple top piece, $16 and i paid $4 when i used my credit!! love it...

then we went to the bookstore bc there are a few true crimes i have on my list--none of them were there, but i did end up getting one for $2.50 about john wayne gacy (the clown killer)-probly going to be pretty creepy, but i cant wait to read it....

metro was our last stop for the night-seeing as i havent been here in a month, there is NO food here..we just bought the essentials, milk, nachos and garlic bread lol stuff to get us thru the night and the milk for cereal and coffee in the morning..

i cant wait to the lay on the beach tomorrow, bring some lunch and read a good book!

i scream, you scream

the word going around my work yesterday was that coldstone ice cream was coming to canada/already here...well i think my jaw dropped...less than 3 weeks ago when we were in NYC trying out that place for the first time, i said i was gonna email that place and tell them to come to toronto, they would do amazing here!!

anyways, im not working in toronto, but where my parents live about an hour away, and the guy at lunch is saying, "ya, theyre teaming up with tim hortons and opening a bunch of stores together"...SAY WHAT!? i couldnt believe it and another girl was saying the same thing, oh ya there is already one open at such and such location..im like get outta town!! this was wednesday during the day...thinking about it all day and night and then all day today-but thinking its too good to be true-the said location just didnt seem like a good busy spot and i saw no advertising or heard about this anywhere.

however, i just couldnt wait any long-and tonight me and dylan went to see if it was true...

driving along, past place #1 where i thought it was..no dice-not there...keep going to possible location #2..what do i see?!?

YUP...its there!!...a tim hortons/cold stone creamery...i may have let out a few squeels in the car and may have looked like a kid arriving at disney world for the first time..this was awesome.

i got my fave-and only one i have tried so far-the all lovin no oven..except the girl put graham cracker pie crust in stead of cookie dough : oh well. it was still good!!!

mission accomplished..very happy customer!

....had unlimited funds for books (that whole true crime section at chapters-ya that would be mine!)
....could travel more..i shouldnt even say more, bc i dont at all really!
....had a big walk in closet..which i will some day-right dyl?? yup, though so!

photobooths

dyl came over for dinner tonight, after my long day at work.
my parents made a good chicken dinner-bbq chicken, chicken and potatoes, and corn on the cob! yummm, then later on, we headed on over to indigo-got a new book (true crime of course) and a fathers day card! then we went to the mall for a walk around, and i remembered what i have wanted to do for a while when i found one....a photobooth!! we happened to have matching yellow shirts on--totally not planned ( i had mine under my work shirt and after work when i picked him up, he came out to the car with it on,,,although not totally matching, just the color lol)
anyways, the photobooth was cool, totally upgraded from the last time i did it, which was like 7 years ago. now, not only is the quality way better, each person gets their copy of the strip of 4 pictures-for $5. impressive.

anyways, this is us. dylan decided to wear some random headband tonight lol
i think photobooths are our new 'thing'...whenever we pass one, we must get in, and smile for the camerA!

oh working...

youre taking up all my time now..its kind of annoying!!
at least i had yesterday off..which i pretty much read all day and am now this close to being done helter skelter..what a great book.
anyways-sunday @ work was awful-it was insanely busy and the time didnt go by nearly fast enough..im always sure that right at 4pm, our signs are flipped to CLOSED. but no, no..that doesnt stop people from coming in! why would closed mean closed?? or maybe everyone of those 20 customers that came after 4pm is illiterate?!? hmm..it has got to be the most frustrating thing everrrr.... like and then they push the door open, and they ASK!, "are you guys closed?" uhh bud, what does the sign say...but the boss lets people in, and thats the problem. so they kept streaming in..4:05, 410--still coming! common line "oh i just need one thing!" I DONT CARE...come back tmrw morning. ahhhhh

and then i finally got the keys and locked the entrance door..but see we have an exit door about 10 feet away (which people always use as an entrance during the day-no biggie), but some customers will come to the entrance door, look at the very closed sign, PUSH the door, realized its LOCKED and try the exit door and come in because its not locked yet (bc the late people who are still shopping around need to get out-thats why its not locked yet) like WTF is wrong with people!!
total rant today--its just totally rude, like common, us workers have lives too and we dont want to be at work 24 hrs a day to serve you. thank god im not working here all summer-i would freakin lose my mind..i dont care what im getting paid, its not worth it..
i have 4 days left this week, including today, then well see when i feel like going back here and there.
thats all for now.

a few things..

1) i cant upload videos to blogger for some reason, after 10 hours of the site 'uploading' a 10 second video, i figured it wasnt working lol

2) i have to work today-first day pretty much all summer-the same job ive been at the last 4 summers-filling in for someone for a week while they are in VEGAS! only 10-2 today-not bad

bringing me to..

3) GO SEE THE HANGOVER!! i saw it last night...absolutely hilarious!!! omg the audience was dying of laughter the whole movie--its knock your socks off funny ;) i was surprised to hear it got good reviews, bc usually comedies like that dont, but no wonder-its witty and the one liners are classic!! oh my, i cant wait to watch it again soon :D

life in the city-part 2

wednesday morning started off good..we got ourselves together, packed the suitcases and headed on down to the lobby to our bags away for the day (while checking out-thats when we got our free breakfast ;) )

on the plan for wednesday: meatpacking district, see the friends apartment, and shake shack!

after our lovely breaky, we headed down 8th (our hotel was on w46 i think, or 48), all the way down to meatpacking district..it was about 30 blocks or so (we dont like cabs or public transit very much-we're walkers lol thanks toronto life!) but as it became less touristy, you could really see all the neighbourhoods-and thats when we (or maybe it was mostly me) fell even more in love...once we arrived i was in heaven lol even though some of it was gungry and dirty, it was still fantastic. i saw some awesome designer stores, like the ones not on 5th ave-alexander mcqueen, marc jacobs, DVF and so on...sigh..
after checking out a few of the stores there, we then took a few steps or blocks on over to greenwich village ♥♥♥...bigger sigh!! this place was amazing-great-fantasic-cozy-beautiful!!! ahh to die for...ive decided..if and when i move to NYC for a year when im done school, this is where i intend on living.. 100% mark my words..ive looked on craigslist and the rent is no different than toronto...
we also saw the 'friends apartment'-it would be kind of neat to live in there..it was a nice looking place..
we then went for some drinks at dublin-ice coffee for moi and mojito for dyl.

oh, and i also saw my other love..the shoe god..christian louboutin..

next up after admiring all the lovely townhouses and cafes and parks, we went to little italy, soho and china town...i was feeling pretty crappy, but we had a nice lunch-some pizza-in little italy.

thats the place in the back-i cant remember the name-but the pizza was A+

after the pizza, i was still not feeling great, so we took a cab back to our hotel area, and decided to go see a movie, star trek it was lol it was a decent movie, i had no star trek background, but i didnt fall asleep (like i usually do at the theatre at times, haha how embarassing) and by the time the movie was done i felt better.

but it was only about 530-6 and we didnt leave until 9. as we walked out of the theatre i saw coldstone creamery!! oh my..i had seen this on regis and kelly and had to have it...so there we went
i cut the E out..oops
dylan got the cheesecake ice cream...

for me--all lovin' no oven--TO DIE FOR-holy crap--i love cake batter-i could make a cake and just eat the bowl of batter-and this was cake batter ice cream--it was identical, i was eating frozen batter-i was in heaven..one of these little stores needs to be opened in toronto..ASAP!!

on our way back, we couldnt exactly remember what street our hotel was on..mr dylan read the map wrong (ahem) and took us to 41st, although i was pretty sure it was 46..and after a good 45 minutes wandering around times squares looking for our street and a stop at mcd's, i looked at the map again, and for once, this geography bimbo (that would be me) got us back to our hotel!
sadly, it was time to get our bags, change into comfy clothes for the bus, and head home. :( sad sad...

we certainly did a lot in our 2 days there..this wasnt even a dent in the pictures..but until next time..

bye bye NYC, i ♥ u...

breakfast delicious-ness

this morning i remembered what i had decided to have for breakfast this morning.
french toast...with frosted flakes-together!
i made the egg part-1 egg, splash of milk, nutmeg, cinnamon sugar and a spoon of vanilla extract. i only took out one piece of bread bc i didnt know if it would be any good (but how could it not be??!) then i got a place and put some frosted flakes on it and crushed them up. the bread went in the egg then onto the flakes and into the pan.
ohh mann..it was mm mm good!
also, last night i had this craving for my oh-so-good red velvet cake. but i was thinking to make them in cupcake style instead-but it just takes so many odd ingredients that arent around the hous--and what do you know, my parents just came home from groceries, and my mom has the stuff to make a lemon poppyseed coffee cake.. :):)

big city love!!

sooo NYC was awesome-as usual

monday was a long day; waiting till 930 at night to get on the bus..but we made it!
we got into the city at 7am and even though our check-in at the hotel was 3pm, i asked at the desk to double check. we stayed at the Paramout Hotel-amazing by the way!! the renovations are almost done-the lobby is super cool looking and modern and the rooms and really clean and nice looking too. so we got to the desk and she said that although they didnt have a king size available (like we had booked), she could give us a queen right away and give us a discount..so of course we said ok!. now what we originally booked was a 600$ room (king) and bc of the renovations, i guess they wanted to bring people in, so it was 50% off at the time of booking. so when the taxes were done and what not, it came to 331$ total. however, because we took the queen, our total came up to 230$..bonus!! not to mention, when we left the next morning, dylan said that our room wouldnt cool down and the lady at the desk gave us the european buffet breakfast for free---70$ value!! woo hooo [70 dollars for breakfast tho, really??]

next up-we went up to our room to change our clothes and freshen up after 10 hours on a bus. at about 830, we were ready to go..we got some breakfast at a place close by -europa cafe - and we noticed it starting to rain outside...boo and we didnt bring the umbrella-of course...

the first place i wanted to hit was bergdorf's for my purse, but it didnt open till 10 so we sat under a tree for about 25 minutes to sheild the rain. soon enough, it opened and i was in heaven-this store was incredible-however, no purse :( we went to barneys, bloomingdales-a bunch of them-but the purse i want doesnt come in black until next season-oh well, ill have to wait.

as soon we were done at these stores, the weather turned out beautiful!!!! it was soo sunny and hot! we got lost in central park for a few hours
10 second timer..woo

then, when we were through with the park, we went to the museum of natural history..no pic necessary, i think its self explanatory lol we came out at columbus ave, and :O a shake shack!! which we definitely had on our list to eat at-however, it was super busy and no seats-so we walked on over 2 restaurants down and ate at cafe frida.
margaritas and sangria!

the food was good-but pricey for the amount that we got...we then continued to walk up columbus ave all the way until columbus circle-which we then took a cab home and were exhausted.
OH i almost forgot, as we were on our way to the park, we turned down a side street to get there, and we this car with the presidents emblem on it with a few people waiting across the street..a few minutes later, who do we see in the back, joe biden! we saw him driving off in his car..
after about an hour at the hotel, we went back out and went to a movie :P lol we're nerds..we saw night at the museum. then we walked around times square for a bit at night and came across some amazing townhouses.
this was after the movie, walking back to the hotel-times square being turned into a pedestrian mall possibly-this is the trial run-hundreds of lawn chairs and funky seating with some the roads running through times square being blocked off..i think its a pretty good idea. bc really, why do you need to drive through there anyways?? some of the roads are still open, and if youre a cab, a) you know your way around the city and can figure out a different route if need be and b) you can drop off the passengers right outside times square..im sure they can walk the extra few steps!! people seemed to like it, the chairs were always filled!
all this in day 1...we took around 300 pictures! ahhh and some little videos, but i doubt they will load properly..day 2 to come later..

NYC bound

YAYY !!! the day has come..

NEW YORK CITY, HERE WE COME!

we leave tonight at 930 on a bus and we shall get into the city at 7am! woo
today: buy some magazines, dylan exchange his money, me paint my nails, buy some candy!, do laundry, and i gotta shower and do my hair for i want it for tomorrow.

bad news in all of this (can you believe there is bad news?!)---weather network says RAIN and THUNDERSTORMS!!! ohhh noooo...plleeeeeeeeeeease hold out!! and its going to be hot too, like 25ish, which means, humid and damp, and that brings on the frizz!! and just to top it off, it should be raining tonight in toronto too, just when we're waiting for the bus..gahhh so this means that i will be curling my hair today bc if i straighten it, it will whirl and twirl and do its own thing anyways.

but enough with the negative..we've got some things planned and were uber excited!!
dylan wants to see the museum of natural history, were gonna have to some lunch in central park (fingers crossed for the weather), and i cant wait to go into bergdorfs!! ive never been in and i plan on buying a marc by marc jacobs purse..i have two in mind, but i dont think they come in black, and i really need a black hobo type bag..that should be fun! and thats our plan for tmrw..wednesday i think were going to see the 'friends' apartment, walk through the meatpacking district (umm christian louboutin?!??), and have some lunch at shake shack-ya, ive heard some pretty good things about this place, and its also been on the food network..must be a good sign-and also, any little "shack" that people are willing to wait outside in a line for over half hour, must be pretty awesome!

so as you can see, we dont have too much of a rigorous schedule to stick to-we wanted it to be more of a weekend of 'hanging out' and just walking around, pretending like we live there lol ive been too many times to see the 'touristy' stuff again, and since dylan saw it all last year, that was enough for him-now i know the museum is kind of touristy, and maybe the friends apartment lol but thats it, i think? haha

anywho, dylans still sleeping, ive got my coffee while watching regis and kelly and around 11 we will probably go out and start our little errands..yup!
